Barre at YWCA O‘ahu
Barre uses a combination of movements inspired by ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates.
The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training.
It’s low-impact and non-dance based.
Classes may incorporate light hand weights, the Pilates Ball and/or dynabands for added strength and core work.
Barre classes will be free for YWCA O‘ahu members in November.
If you have not yet signed up for a YWCA O‘ahu membership, a registration form is available here.
To access our full lineup of Health & Wellness services, a fitness plan is required in addition to the YWCA O‘ahu membership. Fitness plan details are available here; call (808) 538-7061 to sign up.
Guests (non-YWCA members) can register for a $25 drop-in barre class with the form below.
MEET OUR BARRE INSTRUCTORS
Maile became a certified group fitness instructor more than 30 years ago to support herself through graduate school.
Little did she know that despite an active family life and busy professional career, she wouldn't feel complete without continuing teaching fitness.
She sees movement as a key factor in maintaining a balanced, happy, healthy life.
Certified as a Barre Above instructor and Yoga teacher (RYT 200hr), Maile is committed to providing a welcoming & accepting context for her students.
Whether it’s teaching Barre, yoga, Zumba, dance, or strength-training, Maile loves to share the joy of moving in a safe and fun environment.
