YWCA O‘ahu Receives $5,000 from HomeStreet Bank

SEATTLE, Wash. - March 31, 2016 - During HomeStreet Bank’s grand opening celebration for its new Kaimuki branch, two donations were presented to local organizations, totaling $10,000. One donation for $5,000 was presented to the Hawaii Foodbank, and another $5,000 was presented to YWCA O‘ahu.

“Supporting the local communities where we do business is part of who we are,” said HomeStreet’s CEO and President Mark Mason. “We were pleased to celebrate the grand opening of our new Kaimuki bank branch by making donations to two important community organizations.” 

For YWCA O‘ahu, the $5,000 donation will go to the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership, allowing 40 girls from Farrington High School to attend this year’s Girl’s Summit. The Girl’s Summit is an inspiring and informative one-day seminar for girls of all backgrounds to network with successful female leaders in the community, learn about different career fields, and explore their personal ambitions—and what it will take to achieve them.

The Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership will hold its Biennial Fundraiser "Downtown Uncorked Spring Fling" on Friday, April 22, 2016

On April 22, from 5:30-8:00pm, the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership (MCBL) will hold its spring fundraiser Downtown Uncorked in the beautiful courtyard at YWCA O‘ahu.

MCBL's mission is to promote the economic and leadership advancement of women entrepreneurs and women at all levels and stages of their careers. "Creating an environment for business success is what we're trying to achieve," said Denise Esposito, Director of MCBL. "By sharing and enhancing the skills of Hawaii's entrepreneurs, we're assisting individuals and businesses to succeed." YWCA Oahu's Patsy T. Mink Center for Business and Leadership, funded in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, is located on the third floor of the YWCA's Laniākea headquarters, providing a venue for both women and men to network, take business classes and use business-consulting services.

Downtown Uncorked will feature wine tastings from Johnson Bros. of Hawaii, Inc. along with gourmet appetizers hosted by Café Julia. Highlights of the event are a specialty wine Silent Auction and a Lucky Draw for: two Hawaiian Air tickets to the mainland, a delicious five-course dinner for 8 at Café Julia and an amazing wine themed gift basket. Dress for Success® Honolulu Empowers Women through Success is Calling™ Program

TracFone Brand to Donate 20% of all Handset Sales at Walmart in April to Dress for Success

Honolulu, Hawaii – March 29, 2016 – TracFone®, one of America’s leading no-contract cell phone service providers, and Dress for Success® are teaming up to expand the Success is Calling™ program to twice as many women and cities nationwide as it did in 2015. The Success is Calling program provides women with knowledge and resources to help them thrive during the interview process, with emphasis on the critical first step to employment – the phone interview. As a result of the Success is Calling program in 2015, the majority of the 300 program graduates landed a job, including 14 Honolulu women.

Dress for Success Honolulu at YWCA O‘ahu, which helps hundreds of Honolulu women on average find gainful employment each year, will continue to participate in the program and offer local program workshops throughout August, September and October at its Laniākea location on Richards street.

Upon completion of the program, TracFone will provide each graduate with a smartphone and one year of service for support as they prepare to enter the workforce. And, TracFone is donating 20 percent of its handset sales at Walmart, up to $525,000, to Dress for Success throughout the month of April to equip women with the tools and skills needed to build successful, long-term careers.
